I have indeed been very puzzled by the claim of having God's preference, while breaking His commandments. Killing children in Gaza to bring about the Messiah? How does that make any sense? Stealing Palestinians' land to create the Kingdom of God? Owning the porn industry? Didn't God specifically command against murder, theft and adultery? Certainly they can't claim to have His favor!
But there is one who likes murder, theft and adultery and offers worldly riches if you worship him, and perhaps that's why it's God's first commandment to not have other gods before Him.
